Elephants, Baby!

One of my most devoted and special readers is expecting!

So I couldn't help but think of her and her baby-to-be when I saw this top.

Sheer Elephant Top
$17.80 at Forever21 To Buy

You see she loves elephants!  So if an elephant nursery ends up not working out, there is always this top from Forever21.

And while I do not consider myself a maternity-wear expert, I think this top has some room for a bump?

Elephant nursery or not, I may still have to get her this stuffed elephant.   I mean look at those eyelashes.  Does she use Latisse?

Ellis the Elephant in Color Splash
$14.98 at FAO Schwarz  To Buy
(also available in other fabrics)

I have to say, I think elephants are a fun theme for a nursery, boy or girl.  Quite the popular animal in the baby world.  You should see all the elephant toys!  Is fashion next?

Beauty Buy #8: Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo & Conditioner

This Beauty Buy is not so much a value but something I love anyway.

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo & Conditioner
$13 each at Various Retailers
(I bought mine in-store at Ulta but not for sale online)

I originally bought this shampoo and conditioner for my husband because he likes product that tingle.  Of course I had to give it a try and I ended up liking it more than he did.  It has some of my favorite ingredients such as peppermint and lavender.  That being said, as much as the shampoo and conditioner both invigorate and tingle, I was more impressed by how the tea tree oil actually conditions.  I was expecting more of a cleanser and less of a conditioner.

And you know what?  It was refreshing.

So while this shampoo and conditioner can be more expensive, I did enjoy the purchase and plan on making it again.  To justify, I will say I am doing something good for the Earth

And saving money because I can share it with my husband.

Lacy Lady Tray

Sometimes I come across knickknacks that I think are so adorable I just want the world to know.

Fringe "Lace" Tray
$25 at Bloomingdale's To Buy

I keep all my regularly rotated jewels in a smaller tray atop my dresser.  I have been thinking I need to upgrade to a slightly larger tray as mine is now overflowing.  I love the feminine lace detail that will complement my collection of rhinestones and baubles whereas the black will mix with my more funky, edgy pieces.  For $25, a perfect gift too.

I think every lady should have this lacy tray in their dressing room.

While At Target...

While at Target pick-up these three magazines in the checkout aisle:

Lots of helpful denim tips and inspirational "Eight Days of Chic" pictorial
(note the recommended $30 pair of Old Navy jeans)

Exciting Fall fashion preview + helpful what to wear now tips

For those of us who love high style but live in a smaller space
 + a TDF Chicago kitchen

$15 for a month's worth of inspiration...here's to counting down the days until September magazines!!!

Le Target Dresses

I made a quick pop into Target and shockingly left only having paid $5.

That is an accomplishment wouldn't you say?

Despite my frugality, I did spot some dresses I thought were cute and affordable.

Merone Women's Sleeveless Scoop Neck Dress
$20 at Target To Buy

Confirmed that I am obsessed with all things green but what also drew me to this dress is its cotton simplicity.  The lightweight fabric is perfect for a mid-summer heatwave.  The ruching along the neckline and waist give the dress a flattering silhouette and a more elevated style than a regular cotton dress.  Of course, a dress for $20 that is equally stylish with embellished flats or heels is worth the pricetag.

Merona Women's Odette Knit Dress
$34.99 at Target To Buy

Again, more green but this time a print in a color combo I adore: emerald green and navy.  The silhouette of this dress is so flattering.  The tie-waist gives a feminine waistline and the v-neck adds leanness.  The fabrication is perfect for summer days at the office but I think you could also pull this dress off at a summer wedding.  Definitely DVF-inspired at a more affordable price.

Liz Lange Maternity Sleeveless V-Neck Knit Dress
$27.99 at Target To Buy

Okay I am not pregnant but I know a couple of you ladies out there are and you want to be in on this CC action.  One of the regular mistakes I make is browsing the racks at Target only to realize I am in the maternity section and how envious I am of those empire waists and comfy fabrics.  Such was the case with this dress.  I love the print and color combo...and it is jersey!  How do we get a non-maternity version of this sent from heaven dress?

Merona Easy Care Easy Wear Beach Geo Dress
$24.99 at Target To Buy

So sometimes funny things happen in the CC world.  As I was drafting this over the course of 24 hours, a co-worker wore this dress to my place of employment.  I couldn't believe how chic, well-fitted and tasteful her dress was.  When I asked her if that was "blank designer" she said, "No.  Target.  $25 dollars.  Can you believe it?"  Honestly, no because the fit was impeccable.  Besides being fashionable, this dress can go in your washer...and dryer!  Double save!  Just as an fyi, my co-worker is more mature and always hot, and she was still loving her dress circa end of the day.

So Le Target, you may have only taken 5 of my best dollars this weekend...but based on these dresses, there is for sure an opportunity to take more.

The CC family is Norwegian.  In fact, members were at a family reunion there last week.  Everyone is home safe but our heart is sad.

Green Skirt + Perfect Shoes

Because I already own the most amazing green midi skirt in my head, I have naturally selected the perfect footwear that will look amazing with it...once both purchases are made.

Until then, here is what I am thinking footwear-wise.

Nine West Stylin Sandal
$53.40 at Nine West To Buy

These shoes are getting mucho press this season, especially in the red/natural combo.  I like that they are a little mod, a little disco-y and can be dressed up or down.  Besides looking awesome with my soon-to-be owned midi skirt, they would get so much mileage with my current wardrobe.  Only concern?  Heel height.

ELLE Peep-Toe Wedges
$38.99 at Kohl's To Buy

OMG...when will this Kohl's shoe madness stop?  Again, I gotta tell you I don't think these shoes look like they are $39 from Kohl's.  Totally could pass these off to the co-workers as a contemporary shoe designer.  I love these shoes but sadly I think I am full in the platform category...and I am going to also go ahead and say full in the Kohl's shoe category.

So while no official decision has been made, I think I owe it to you to know where my head is at when it comes to the green midi and possible footwear selections.

Sea Glass and Starfish

If this necklace...

Kate Spade New York Sea Glass Twisted Statement Necklace
$398 at Amazon.com To Buy

And this necklace...

Betsey Johnson Starfish Necklace
$55 at Macy's To Buy

Combined to make a less expensive friend...it would be this necklace:

Mixit Shaky Motif Necklace
$13.99 at JCPenney To Buy

I think if you are breaking out sea creatures, $13.99 is the appropriate price point.  Mainly because this necklace is one season only unless you are a marine biologist.  But for $13.99 I say, "who cares? It's fun."

Who knew starfish were so "in" though, right?

Modern Straw Clutch

I don't own anything in straw because most times it feels too country cutesy.

But...that may soon change because this clutch at Macy's has caught my eye.

The VIP Mini Bag by R&Em
$58 at Macy's To Buy

I love the sharp lines and black patent leather.  The clutch shape, zippers and silver hardware feel tough and urban.  My favorite detail is the blue fabric on the zipper.  Check it out.

For certain this clutch would be a valuable player in your handbag arsenal as it easily transitions from casual to dressy; modern to relaxed.  In fashion it is all about opposites.  In this case the opposites of modern shape and straw fabric definitely attract.

Tribal-Inspired: Denim Cut-offs and Tee

To me, summer fashion should be easy.  More specifically this means starting with two basic pieces: denim cut-offs and a nicer knit top.  From there your accessory possibilities are endless.

I suggest starting with one pop piece as your inspiration:

Southwood Handbag
$45 at Aldo To Buy

I love a tribal-inspired piece because it gives you a bold and colorful palette to revolve the rest of your outfit around.  This handbag has all my summer favorite colors: red, turquoise and tan.  To add some contrast and brightness, I am going to incorporate a tropical yellow tee as my top.

Fleur Wide-Neck T-Shirt
$49 at Reiss To Buy

The critical component of any summer outfit is that it should be able to do double-duty.  It should be able to work with flip-flops or casual sandals as easily as it could a pair of heels.  The rest is fun.  Play with accessories within your color palette for bold pops of color.  Layer one or two pieces for a more refined polished look or multiples for a funky, eclectic ensemble.

Can't Stop Thinking About

Ever since I saw this skirt at Lulu's I can't stop thinking about how fantastic it would be to own a green skirt.

Once I made the executive decision I must own a green skirt, I have decided this is my first overall pick.

Pleated Midi Skirt
$68.96 at Asos To Buy
(bonus points for elastic waistband!)

It's pleated, knit and midi...the perfect skirt trifecta. Amazing during the summer with a lace t-shirt and during the winter with black tights, platform heels and a simple black turtleneck.  CC loves a versatile basic in a bright color that can be worn year round...fashionable, yet easy.  My mantra to say the least.

Here are some other green skirt options:

CC Selections at the Piperlime Shoe Pre-Fall Event

So like most of the universe, I am sure you are on pin and needles dying to know what one Mrs. CC selected for herself at the Piperlime Pre-Fall Shoe Event.

Without further ado...

Koko by DV by Dolce Vita
$75 $55 at Piperlime To Buy

As I had previously mentioned loafers are the hot flat for Fall.  And while I am dying for a leopard print pair, there is something about this pair I equally love.  The snakeskin print is neutral and will go with just about everything in my existing wardrobe.  I love that these loafers will transition me from Summer to Fall working back to shorts, then capris and ultimately pants.  Le sads.

3-Layer Fringe Boots by Minnetonka Mocassin
$90 $65 at Piperlime To Buy

Just call me Miley.  I have been reallllllly wanting these boots for the last few years and now that I have seen them on sale, I feel like it is now or never.  Also available in grey, these will be a more lightweight alternative to my motorcycle boots and go great with my leggings when I want to be comfy.

Let me know if you bought anything during the event!

Old Navy Summer Sale Obsessions

For some reason I have been obsessed with these things from Old Navy and now that I have an extra 25% off opportunity, I am all in.

First up, I wrote about my nutmeg zebra flip-flops (far right) awhile back and was quite happy with them circa trip to Florida and beyond.  Now that they are $3.50 plus an additional 25% off with promo code, I feel I am doing Old Navy a disservice but not ordering another 2 pair.

Can you guess which 2 pair I ordered?

Women's Printed Flip-Flops
$3.50 at Old Navy To Buy

I don't know why either but this top has been on my mind.  I have not seen it in-person but for some strange reason I cannot stop thinking about it.  So now that it is on sale plus 25% off I am taking a chance and ordering it.  Cross your fingers it lives up to my imagination.

Lace Trimmed Top
$15 at Old Navy To Buy

Lastly, I have been living in my striped Old Navy tank this summer and think this one is just as cute.  For less than $3 I figured adding one more to my collection was a good idea.  I just wish they had more in my size!

Perfect Rib-Knit Tank
$3.97 at Old Navy  To Buy

Here is what this budget-conscious lady is obsessing over.  Have you spotted anything you can't live without?

Piperlime Pre-Fall Shoe Event

Does the phrase "Pre-Fall" invoke panic and fear in you as it does me?

Like me, you are probably thinking, "Wait...didn't summer just get here and we are already thinking Fall?"

Well, if you have been out shopping recently, then you may have realized the answer is yes.

Mid-July officially begins the introduction of Fall fashion.  To stimulate buying, many retailers offer discounted prices to move merchandise early and get people into stores looking at other full-price merchandise.  Only problem?  It is still 40 degress too warm to wear anything you buy.

Normally I avoid pre-Fall sales because I have learned I would rather wait until the actual season arrives to assess my taste and needs.  Truthfully, when Fall hits I want new things and not the stuff that has been sitting in my closet for 3 months.  Last, most of the merchandise you see on sale during pre-Fall events will be even less expensive come October because it will be marked down.

The only exception is "basics" where you can sometimes pick-up a deal on something that rarely gets marked-down.  Enter the Piperlime Pre-Fall Shoe Event.  For the next 2 days, Piperlime will be offering discounts on a handful of Fall shoes.

Below I picked a sampling of shoes I feel represent a snapshot of Fall footwear trends: flats, animal print and booties with wedge heels.  All pairs are $100 or less.

And for those of you who think I feature shoes you would never wear because it is all platforms and 4" heels, note 2 of the pairs shown are from Aerosoles!  Comfy and cute!

Piperlime Pre-Fall Shoe Event

1.  Bectify by Aersoles $49 Chanel-inspired comfort
2.  Tatum by Coconuts $39 $39 for pony hair?  Insane.
3.  Koko by DV by Dolce Vita $55 The loafer is Fall's hot flat
4.  Plum Tree by Aersoles $59 My #1 pick.  Patent, Animal print and comfort
5.  Neila by Calvin Klein $79 Zebra is more versatile than leopard print
6.  Janelle by DV by Dolce Vita $99 Dying for this bootie.  3 shoes in 1. Kitten heel!
7.  Map It To Me by Unlisted by Kenneth Cole $39  Brown and black mixing will be big
8.  Tobago by Hive & Honey $79 Versatile pick for dresses and leggings
9.  At Once by Chinese Laundry $69 Taupe is Fall's hot footwear color

Belt Stud

I think I have professed my love for Gap belts on multiple occasions and this belt is no exception.

But I can't remember if I told you if I bought it or not?

Multi Stud Belt
$22.99 at Gap stores To Buy

I have been pleasantly surprised by this belt.  It fits me well.  I wear it below my waist but above my hips over pencil skirts when I feel like I need a little something around my midsection to make my simple outfit more interesting.  Surprisingly it stays put.  And I like that it is a little tough with all those studs.

Weekend Uniform: Work (Garden) Party

One of the hardest parts of my job is going to work on summer weekends when everyone else is heading to the lake or pool.

When this is the case, I try to have a little fun with my weekend work wardrobe because the dress code is more relaxed.  Usually this involves mixing bright colors, lightweight fabrics and fun accessories.

Impressionist Flowers Dress
$17.80 at Forever21 To Buy

We all know I think a lightweight summer dress is the perfect weekend uniform...even if it means wearing it to work.  I bought this dress while in South Carolina because it felt very Southern yet still sort of me.  The pretty floral pattern and fuller skirt feel feminine and frilly but the bold colors (including some hints of neon yellow) keep it from going too prissy.

I added in a few delicate accessories including vintage pink beads and my Vera flats to keep it feminine and one piece to keep it funky...a neon yellow belt.

Skinny Patent Belt
$25.99 at Gap To Buy

Last, to make my outfit work appropriate (no bare shoulders), a black cardigan was necessary.  Of course after work I am ditching the cardigan, adding some heels and heading to a cocktail party in an elegant garden.  The only thing missing is a mojito.

Okay...this scenario is not true but sometimes it is these daydreams that get me through working on the weekends.

Weekend Uniform: Summer Dresses Under $75

Before I get to the meat of the post, I need some feedback.

Do you like getting CC posts on the weekend?

Email me your thoughts and opinions on this oh-so urgent matter.

Now onto to more important business...summer dresses.

Sometimes all you need in the summer is 1 good, lightweight dress to take you from the pool to the patio; cruisin' to cocktails.  One of the best places to find such dresses is Piperlime.  All dresses featured are $75 or less and can be worn with flip-flops or heels.

Summer Dresses: Pink, Red & White

Summer Dresses: Green, Blue, Black and Grey

If you ask me, these jelly sandals are an excellent footwear choice for any of the above dresses...and under $40!  Perfect summer uniform with a pair of sunglasses.  The ultimate summer accessory: a cocktail.

Happy weekend and let me know your thoughts on weekend CC posts at:

Strappy Wedge Sandals

If you recall, I had my eye on this pair of strappy wedge sandals from Kohl's that I had spotted in an issue of InStyle.

Libbie Sandal by ELLE
$19.50 at Kohl's To Buy

I ended up not buying the pair of above because they really did not fill any kind of void in my footwear collection...shocking...I do show restraint at times!

However, in my research I did come across these:

Pilar Strappy Wedge Sandal by Mossimo
$29.99 at Target

Here is the void these shoes fill...I don't own any pink shoes!  These shoes are also a dead ringer for a pair from DV by Dolce Vita for about $50 less so that adds to the intrigue for sure.  If I had to be honest with myself, I am concerned with their comfort and perhaps looking a bit tacky in real life.  So this jury is still out.

Stay tuned for further developments on the strappy wedge sandal front.

Green Lace Skirt

While standing in line at Starbucks this weekend, I couldn't help but notice the woman in front of me wearing this figure-flattering skirt in a gorgeous green.

Bosky Lace Skirt
$118 at Anthropologie To Buy

Faithful friends, I am not going to lie to you.  This skirt is not my speed per se but definitely adorable and the color is TDF.  Not to mention the tailoring and fit are impeccable.  The detail of the fabric is also intricate and feminine without being too frou frou.  Perfect for a summer picnic or day at the office...and apparently standing in line at Starbucks.

While this coffee drinker had her green skirt dressed down with a white t-shirt, how cute would it be with a white blouse and turquoise statement necklace?

Bosky Lace Skirt

Fab Footwear Update

If you recall earlier in the Spring / Summer, I have been making a concentrated effort to update my warm weather weather footwear options.

Fab Footwear Pair #1:  Jessica Simpson Kendale

On sale from $40+ at Von Maur, Lord & Taylor, Endless.com
Also available in black and tan
Google Shop "Jessica Simpson Kendale" for options

All day long, people were like, "OMG!  CC!  Did you know your shoes look just like Valentino?"  Duh.  That is why I bought them.  Although I don't find them to be an identical match, they are cute, comfortable and great for work.  They went over well with the co-workers.

Fab Footwear Update #2:  Simply Vera Vera Wang Chaos Booties

There are only 2 sizes left...Click here.

HUGE hit!  Although I have not found a great summer outfit for these shoes, I anticipate getting a lot of wear out of these booties come late Summer and early Fall.  What was interesting about the commentary on these shoes is two things.  One, people who normally do not comment on my clothes were fascinated by these shoes; women of all ages too!  Two, people could not believe they were Kohl's and less than $30.  Again, super comfortable.

No longer available online in coral but some sizes available in Tan...

Homerun City.  My eyes have been irritating me so I didn't wear eye make-up to work one day but decided to wear these shoes with my Matthew Williamson leopard print blouse as a distraction technique.  Good call.  People were gaga for these shoes.  Again, when their humble origins were revealed, literally noone believed me.  Someone actually looked it up online because they were so impressed with what Kohl's had to offer.  I agree.  Despite being fun and fashionable, I found these platforms comfortable and was able to work a full day in them.  Now I am just trying to come up with more outfits to wear them with!

I am completely more than satisfied with all the fab footwear I have purchased this season and if you have $30 in your shoe budget for a fun and comfy update, I would recommend these three pairs.
